Sunflower seeds

Post by bullacc » Wed Mar 05, 2008 1:20 pm

Hello,

I know this might sound like a stupid question - but does anyone know where i could find roasted sunflower seeds in Helsinki ?
I've been looking in every large and small food store here in the past 4 months, and still nothing...

I've been able to find some black/white sunflower seeds, not roasted, in Smarket - as bird food, really small seeds, not fit for roasting at home and consuming...

Thanks in advance.

I believe I have seen some sunflower seeds in a citymarket or something (I'm not sure anymore actually) in the section where you find lentils etc. They were definitely intended for consumption, not bird food, but couldn't say for sure whether they were roasted. (I didn't really look at the package but merely registered its existence.. )

Stockmann Deli carries loads of dried seeds & berries. In the deli downtown they are found on the lower floor, at the back on shelves next to the customer service desk (which is to the left of the lowe floor tills / checkout desks).

Were any of them shelled ?
That's what i'm looking for - there's no charm in unshelled sunflower seeds, it's much more fun when you have to work to get to the seed :)

I'm not that keen on the spitting shells part - i prefer dropping them in a bag or bowl or something, until i finish eating and i have time to go and dispose of them.

Well, i tried Citymarket, the one in Ruoholahti to be precise.
Nothing.

So, nothing in Lidl, Smarket, Citymarket, and Kmarket.

I still have to try Alepa and Stockmann Deli... if anyone could direct me to those, it would be nice... i know there's a Stockmann somehwere in Helsinki city center, does it have a Deli there (and where in god's name, i was there a couple of times, and didn't see a Deli).

Pet food ? I'd doubt it - the kinds of seeds sold as bird or rodent food are black/white, really small, and with a lot of debris among them (such as wheat, misc dust and stuff).

The kinds of seeds sold for human consumption are always filtered, and also larger - double or triple the size of those sold as bird food.
Also, most are black seeds, although you can find also black/white seeds (but large, as previously mentioned).

There is also a small nut store in both Rautatieasema (right down the stairs from the main platforms but before the stairs down to the metro) :) They sell roasted salted sunflower seeds in nice big bags...

It's here. The delicatessen occupies two basement floors. If you get lost ask one of the people working there.

I must be blind, i didn't see that one at all, and i pass through Rautatieasema almost every day (on the long way to Tipperary... and the shortest way to Dubliner :) ).
I'll go check just as soon as i get off from work.
Thanks.
