dyeing satin shoes
dyeing satin shoes
I have a lovely pair of white satin shoes that I used for my wedding and I'd now like to get dyed black so I could use them. Any ideas how I could get this done? I'm a dunce at handicrafts btw.

I think wedding stores offer the service and somewhere like Stockmann would probably do it for a price.
Not sure about DIY though... sounds tricky and messy.

Hong Kong, and Tarjoustalo sells dyes that you can use in the washing machine..!! Have bought one but never got the guts to try it in my brand new washing machine.

Re: dyeing satin shoes
I tried all the wedding stores here in Kuopio and none of them do it, except one but only if the shoes are of a certain make...Rainbow or something like that. I just didn't know where to try next. Maybe I'll just bring them to Helsinki next time we're down and go searching there...
Raamv, you mean dylon dyes right? I've used them before in the washing maching on clothes or fabric and they're pretty easy to use. And it's not that messy either. After you're done, then just let the machine run once, empty, so it cleans up any left-over residues. Only I don't think it would work for the shoes, I think they'd get ruined in the machine.

Re: dyeing satin shoes
Well, the shoesmiths sell leather dye you "paint" the (leather) shoes with. I'd just get a big black magic marker

Anyhoos I can't use leather dye...the shoes are satin. But I guess maybe I could go and ask a suutari - now what's the right word for that in English? It's not a shoemaker is it? The suutaris don't make shoes, they fix shoes. Cobbler is another word but geez I haven't heard it used very often except in one of the songs I sing my daughter. The husband laughed when he heard the word...said I'm right out of the 1800s

Re: dyeing satin shoes
Well they made shoes in the "good old days" in the 1800's. And satin... how about silk color. I mean paint is paint is paint. I'd take a spray bottle or my model kit colors and airbrush them...

I agree, dyes are really easy to use in a washing machine. My kids do all their camo stuff in ours
and I have dyed some sheets and pillow cases as well. Just follow the instructions and don't forget the salt (I think that is why the machine needs to be run empty afterwards... so there is no salt left in the drum)
