Wedding in Finland

Post by Ellah » Tue Apr 01, 2008 1:51 am

Hey guys.
Not sure this is the right place but I'll give it a go.
My fiance is finnish, we met in Finland and lived there for 2 years, then i got pregnant and I ran as fast as I could back to my homecountry to live there and have the baby. My boyfriend followed me :)
Our baby was born on 4th of January, we recently got engaged. He wants to get married in Finland, I want to have the ceremony in Iceland (struggle struggle)
But since we are living in Iceland I though I could "give" it to him that we get married in Finland (Im not too keen on it since I've always thought that wedding is the dreamday of the bride ((which is me)) and the groom doesnt have much to say about it, mainly cause he's not really interested even)

But I dont even know where to start. It's propably really hard planning a wedding from distance. I cant talk to anyone myself (cause I've only completed "taso1" in finnish) and I cant read any information myself. So yay, the planning has to go to him, but he wont do !"#¤% I know that. He suggested that his mom and aunt plan it for us but HELL as if I'd like some other women to plan MY wedding.

Well this is getting a bit long here.
Have any of you "foreigners" in Finland gotten married there? How did it work? Do they have "wedding planers" in Finland? Or are they !"#¤% expensive? Who made the cake/food? Was the whole thing very expensive?
Any links you could provide or information to give or just sharing your expirience would be nice :)

Regards from Iceland!
Ella

Yes, the mother and the aunts...

You know the huldufólk in Iceland. Well, this móðifólk, is the power in the Finnish man's life. So unless you make the móðifólk happy... why do you think he likes it in Iceland?

The old ladies are the most formidable in Finland. The problem is that not only can you see them, but you can hear them... 24/7 :ochesey:

Hank W. You have over 28 thousand posts. Did you move to finland to spam forums? :o I like you though, no offence.

He was unfortunate enough to be born here...

Anyway, yes there are wedding planners here. Quick google gave up at least one that does it in foreign languages...

And it might be best to leave cakes and foods for catering company to handle. It's likely that those planners can take care of that too.

If he isn't really interested, then have the wedding in Iceland where you will have more control - especially if you feel that it is your dreamday. Then you can "give" him something else that he will be interested in ...
