Mint

Post by Kupcake » Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:30 pm

Anybody know where i can get some good strong fresh mint? I know about the stuff in the supermarket in the little pots, but the leaves are too soft for the Asian, Lebanese and Italian dishes i like to cook. Found some in a cellophane wrapped tray in a Sello supermarket last week, jumped for joy, and went to go back today to get some more but there's no more to be found. I can occasionally get it at one of the Asian Hakaniemi stores, but the supply is irregular.

Not sure where you live but there is a shop (don't know the name but you can just see from outside that its a 'foreign' food shop) just outside Kapylla metro station (before you get to the K market on the other side of the pedestrian walkway) run by a very nice Iraqi guy who sells proper big bunches of fresh mint, I've been in there 3 times and he's always had it in..

Mint is the easiest to grow but the hardest to get rid off once it starts to harass the other herbs..
So pick some seeds n start growing in a tub instead of a garden..

Thanks for this help. I got some in a pot from Plantagen the other day and popped it in a planter box. Am a bit nervous about it, cos i'm not the best in the gardening department, but so far so good. Found some really nice lemon thyme too (good with chicken & fish) and popped that into a different planter box. Fingers crossed!
