The eternal sausage search

Post by gavin » Mon Jun 09, 2003 4:07 pm

sigh.

Sausages.

We all know that even the Finnish efforts are just not good enough.

I've made my own sausages, and jolly good they were too, but does anyone know where to get hold of (english style) sausage skins? - So we can make 'proper' ones?

Anyone with a culinary streak fancy making up a couple of kilos and flogging them? What about that lad with the catering company?

There must be enough interest from the fat b*stards, and Sunday breakfast eaters here to warrant an . sausage? It could be just a couple of kilos every month or so, to people (like me) willing to pay for proper sausages? Might be nice to keep a stock in the freezer.

Well, just a thought.

Cheers
Gavin

Gavin/Richard: I have a number for a "Sausage Factory" in Sörnainen. It is not a shop and it only deals straight to the restaurant trade, but I wonder if we could place an order for a custom run of (e.g Cumberland or Lincolnshire) bangers?

The company name is Wurst Fennica and their web address is http://www.wurstfennica.fi but their website is lacking content at present

The number is: 09 3436 840

If you call, can you find out how much bulk orders are and what the deal is? I think there are a lot of sausage lovers out there and we could probably place a fairly large order and hopefully get a better deal.
Neil

How did you hear about them? Have you tried some of their sausages?

Hello All,

Im an Irish student living in Finland for the past year and desperatly seeking employment´which is where the sausages come in to play.

As i am studying marketing and business i thought why not import sausages, we could set up a consortium from the group and have a firm specialising in foreign imported foods.

Now who knows about the import regulations etc and also lenght of time a sausage stays fresh. Lets stop moaning and act now.

get back quick or miss the banger bus !!!!

OK so it's 17,5% VAT payable in the UK. As far as I am aware that 17,5% can be claimed back at the end of the financial year, which should mitigate the 22%. Also, VAT is not a tax to peanalise business, so the 22% Finnish tax should also be refundable. I am sure there is a VAT agreement between EU member states. Who wants to look into that?

Is there another import tax on bulk goods? or is it just the 22%?

Cheers
Gavin

So you pay 17,5 VAT in the UK, you pay 22%VAT here - who is going to buy VAT and get some sausage with it? The clientele is... lacking.

Nah. Only 'normal' people pay VAT. Companies (even small ones like mine) get VAT payments refunded.

If I have some sausages and sell them to a company, I give an invoice + VAT, they company pays me the VAT, and the Government asks me for it back. The company that buys the saussages from me can get that 22% refunded. Only if I buy a computer to organise my sausage deliveries, I pay the price plus VAT, then claim that back from the Government. The difference between the VAT on sausages and the VAT on the computer is calculated by my lovely book keeper. (And in this scenario, the Governement owes me a lot of VAT returns.)

If I sell the saussages to a private person, you pay 22% VAT and you can't claim it back.

VAT is a tax on 'normal' people, not companies.

And before you even think it, I WILL NOT go and buy your new computer under my company name, and return the 22% VAT to you. That's illegal, you know

Cheers
Gavin

PS - If someone (Tony) actually knows about VAT please correct all my errors. Thats why I have a book-keeper you see.

But how much sausage - or at what price - do you have to sell to keep ahead of the Govermnet, and then sit back and wait a year for the VAT returns? Unless you're VAT registered, which means you're assessment-taxed beforehand? Not to add EELA inspectors and all possible other troubles. Those bangers will be costing so much only rich people can afford them. That means ruin - as rich people diet all the time, its the poor sods like us who get the extra fat to carry us through the winter. pass the carrot...

From the Manchester Evenings News!

Police revealed that a woman arrested for shoplifting had a whole salami in her knickers. When asked why, she said it was because she was missing her Italian boyfriend.

The questions are; where in her knickers did they find it and did they put it back on display?
