I asked him why the doner kebabs in Finland are so bad, he says the reason is that real doner meat is lamb or sheep but they don't like to eat that in Finland, so they use beef here which has been spiced and flavoured to taste like the regular lamb based doner meat. Close but not the same

Kebab
I got chatting with a kebab owner in Lohja, he lived in London 8 years but the competition was too fierce..

Re: Moving from Turkey...
The other reason is the preparation method (from wiki):
The one in bold is far superior to the ground brown rubbish that seems to be the only option in Finland.
There are two basic ways of preparing meat for döner kebabs:
* The most common and authentic method is to stack seasoned slices of lean meat onto a vertical skewer in the shape of a cylinder. The stack is cooked by radiant heat from electric elements or gas fired infrared burners. Often meat, tomatoes, and onions are placed at the top of the stack to drip juices over the meat keeping it moist.
* Some cheaper shops serve a combination of seasoned sliced and ground meat cooked on a grilltop as döner kebab. In Germany the amount of ground meat is not allowed to surpass 60% (Berliner Verkehrsauffassung).

This is interesting. Not only are some kebabs dodgy in taste, they could also be using potentially dangerous meat.
The Norwegian Food Safety authorities have issued a warning on cheap kebabs, estimating that more than 80% of kebab shops selling these are involved in organized meat smuggling, or are in other ways not in full compliance with Norwegian food safety laws and regulations [3].

Re: New Kebab Thread 2008
As I said, the "not being sure"... there was some sort of kebab meat scandal here too related to the Swedish one, but the Finnish guys said they were mostly making their own. And the reason why it is the kind in the picture is simply the price of meat here.
