I have heard that before you buy a used car in Finland you can check somewhere if the car has been in a bad crash, is this so?
Where can I check this?

Could Katsastus do that? For the price they charge now (about 80 teuros) they can just as well look at the chasis I would say  Nice example of privatisation, made some people millionaire and us every year poorer

Yes the katsastus can check for damage but I mean to check the cars history for bad accidents before you buy so you don't buy for example a rebuilt car!

Well it is to my opinion always better to look yourself than to look at some paper. From my country a organisation like katsatus can check the car if it has been heavily damaged (certain points on the car and not from paper history). You than can talk with the seller who is going to pay for it.

you can get from this page http://www.ake.fi all kinds of printouts (you pay with online banking) one of which has the cars owner history... if its had 2-3 owners in short time or been owned by an insurance company in between they're a giveaway, also if its been "first registered" later than whats it been made, if someones hiding the fact import from germany and they may or may not have a refurbished speedometer. also if the car has a percentage number of changed parts its a rebuild.

Yes I checked the AKE website and you can get all the info on any car before you buy you just need the reg no, you can do it on the internet or text on your mobile for just 1.90e! They also explain about it on nettiauto. :D
