Re: Share ur residence permit experience
I just renewed my student residence permit in Turku for a Masters program at University of Turku. The permit was supposed to take 3 weeks but they finished it in around 2.75 weeks. Last year it took under two to process the permit. When I asked why the woman at the Police station told me that there has been a rapid increase in the number of permit applications.
You should expect it to be ready in around 45-60 days. As long as all of your paperwork is in order and you meet the requirements there is little reason to be anxious, especially for a student permit.
Which masters program are you doing at TUT?

I applied for my residence permit 5 weeks ago and i got it today so u should give them a couple of more weeks. I'm in South Korea btw.
Re: Share ur residence permit experience
It all depends on your country. Try emailing the consulate/embassy where you applied (or phone them). It took 3 weeks for me from los angeles (and it was ready for pick up the day I left for helsinki), with most of that time taken by them sending the application to finland and waiting for the return. But I was on them like (polite) glue, and they were nice about it.

How does the embassy send the RP forms and documents to Helsinki? Does it send it through regular post or by finnair coz i'm frm India and finnair flies to New Delhi where the embassy is located.
Re: Share ur residence permit experience
I applied for residence permit from Embassy of Finland in Kathmandu, Nepal on 17th June 2008. It has been more than 5 weeks and I've not heard anything from the embassy. However, few days back I was called by my insurance company(Everest Insurance) to sign a page stating that my insurance was medical insurance and it doesn't cover personal accidents. So, my guess is that issueing residence permit is delayed because of the insurance from Everest. I believe most of the studnets in Nepal have insured from Everest Insurance. So, if any one who was insured from everst insurance or otherwise and have got residence permit pls let us know.

I applied to the NYC Finnish Consulate and got mine back in about 3 weeks. But I had all the paperwork SERIOUSLY in order. I double and triple and quadruple checked that I had everything and all the photos and copies and everything, and then put them all in order in two seperate clear plastic document holders (for each of the complete sets) and had a neatly typed itemized list of contents in the beginning for each, all my contact info, etc etc etc. Really bent over backwards to make it as easy and simple and ordered for them as possible, so I think that may have helped. And I had a previous UK entrace denial in my passport that I thought might cause some problems, but it was totally fine.

I had applied from Delhi too. I got my RP on Friday (25.07.2008) and I had applied on 23.06.2008. My processing took 5 weeks exactly. I would recommend you to call Migri @ +358 71 873 3400 (Mon to Fri b/w 9 AM and 3 PM Finland Time) and ask about the status of your application. They will answer your question. Well, they did answer mine!!!
