Ahvenanmaa/Aland
Well we are considering visiting the islands, and looking for some knowledge of where to go? what to do? will the natives speak anything else than Swedish? or your general opinion. We were thinking of treaking about by bike for instance. Getting there we can figure out (there will obviously be some sort of boat needed
).Thanks!

Re: Ahvenanmaa/Aland
Dunno about english but finnish is rare (they understand it mostly but refuse to speak), no one spoke finnish but when i were in shop and my uncle called and asked how its in there i told honestly "Place is fine and beautiful, we just need to nuke and rehabit with finnish" according to how ppl looked me they understood
There were people who spoke finnish tho, one who show us kastleholma castle did speak but that was his work
There is lot of old castles/ruins and sign "förnminne" if i remember right means something worth to look (im not sure how its written), "muinaismuisto" "memory of anchient, ancient monument". We visited few castles etc in week we were there, some you have to find on your own. That was 6 years ago so i dont have current info, sorry.
I learned that they had 1,5m long beds so head is up, that was to prevent "internal organs" to mix up
And do buy smoked fish, its delicious
We rented a cabin, friend took care of that so i dont know where etc but wasnt too expensive.
I assume atleast tourist places there is someone who speaks english. And its Åland not Aland
Beautiful place with lot of history, totally worth of visit (if you dont count grudge with swe and finn, i assume youre not finn so no problem
)
What i heard there is lot of cycling tourists, its small island anyhow so no problem with that. But if you want something nice get a car and cabin.
I as finnish who dont like way they are were able to enjoy my trip and found old castles etc very interesting so you will do that too
