Student residence permit extension

Post by rapses » Wed Aug 20, 2008 1:27 pm

I am a foreign student studying for Master's degree in Business Administration. I have to apply for student residence permit, though I have the credits and good grades, but I have only €4000 in my bank. Is there any hope for me of getting the permit extension?

In short: No.
The € 500/m (6000/y) in the bank is one of the demands for the RP.
If the box "Enough money" is not ticked, it is automatically a no.
The people doing the judging just follow the rules. They don't interpret every individual situation.

Try to get the missing 2000€ as soon as possible. (a bank/parents/friends loan)

Well, if that's the case - if I were you, I'd get a certificate from your employer stating the same & try and sort your situation out with the authorities. In my opinion (although it is naturally just an opinion), it would be absurd if they denied you the extension, since the main idea is that -quoting http://www.migri.fi - "Students must be able to prove that they have at their disposal at least 500 euros a month or 6000 euros for a year... The objective of the income requirement is that foreigners living in Finland are able to support themselves economically by their own means." If you can prove that in addition to the 4.000€ on your bank account you will be earning 800€ per month, perhaps it will be no problem after all.

With a student RP, you're allowed to work only a limited number of hours (25/week ??).
Make sure you stay under that limit with the information you supply.

you will get 8 month extension with 4000 euros, it's simple logic :ochesey: and 6 months insurance, 6 months permit but permit does not exceed the study period i suppose :ochesey:

I don't think this is possible. If this was possible, we can show a bank statement of EUR 500 and insurance every month and extend the permit for every next month. This kind of arithmetic is out of immigration's consideration.....

sweetie they do not only arithmetic but for now let's try to get a picture here. if you go and screw their time every month, don't you think they will kick your lollipop arse? thing is there has been such cases where students fail to produce required 6000 euros to extend their permits. solution is they extend your permit to the period they think you can support financially! and that's pretty much pragmatic arithmetic they use for the time being!

and as a rule/punishment, they charge you 55 euros to extend the permit!!

Is this what you know or what you think ?
Your "logic" might not be the same as Migri's "logic".
The OP should at least know how much risk he is taking by following your advise.

1) for less than 6000 euros less than 1 year permit has been extended ( there has been such cases now of course it seems logical also but i don't say it's a rule!!)
2) 6 months insurance 6 month permit (permit cannot be issued before and after insurance period, immi rule says so)
3) i think resident permit is granted a few days longer than study period so as to avoid the rush a student might go through to fly back to his country while he is having a hangover from yesterday's graduation party!! :ochesey:

ahh, i'm going through exactly the same problem right now. i've been to the vaasa police station 4 times, each time they've told me new information pertaining to my application. it's so damn annoying. but, to the issue at hand. i was told that since i have a job, i don't need to hit the 6,000 euro limit but can fall a bit short. she did not give me any specifics. my advice? bring your statement and talk to them (esp. if you're in finland right now) and see what they say. and let me know!

best of luck.

I remember one year way back when I was here studying and I was a bit low on cash. I went in to apply for a 1 year permit but talked with them and because of the low cash that I had, I was given 6 months. So it really can work like that. During the 6 month time I ended up getting a job as well so the next time I had to apply I just showed that I was working and that was totally cool with them.

one thing i don't understand really. why one can't borrow some money from friends for a day and put it in bank and get a statement out and withdraw money the same day?
