it is not a "visa" its a residence permit. and either you work or you study... of course you can study when you work and work when you study - but you have to do mainly what you do. so if you have a work permit you have to show you work full-time to get it renewed... if you study you have to show enough credits you have studied (and you can work 20 hours a week)

rule says students can work 20 hours in a week but i have seen students working for big cleaning companies and some resturants full time and even getting permanency in the job and after that getting work permit (thereby changing their status to A type of residence permit). so much for finnish law? or the law says something else regarding students working??

+ full-time on holidays and during their traineeship. but yes in principle if they would be working full-time instead of studying and if they got caught the employer gets fined for hiring an illegal alien and the student gets to go packing home... but then again I don't think thats the first major concern the immigration has as how can you prove that? the police only catches them if they try to renew the student permit. though the schools don't much enjoy these dead souls...

Re: Is it possible to get two visas?
ok... here's the emperical observation:
- students manage to get 30 credits (or 40 credits) in just 3-4 months enough to get their RP renewed (it shows they have been studying on govt.'s eyes for some strange reason)
- cleaning company gives full time job to students, after 4 months(or 2 months) on the job, they become permanent and apply for work permit with evidence (required credits i.e. 30/40 credits) that they are studying.
- immigration asks for study credits, tax paper etc. Everything in place! Hence, students become full time work permit holders!
about employers getting fined, well... one temp. agency (resturants) did tell me if i got caught working over allowed period of time for students, it's my problem not theirs!!
by the way, the cleaning company i am referring to here is very very big one!
seems like immigration/police does not care about students' working nature as long as they manage to find work, pay tax, and prove that they have 30/40 credits

Re: Is it possible to get two visas?
That indeed looks like a very rational approach.seems like immigration/police does not care about students' working nature as long as they manage to find work, pay tax, and prove that they have 30/40 credits

But it needs only one bureaucrat to ruin it.
