Where else to place my ad?

Post by chickensexer » Sun Aug 31, 2008 4:21 pm

Hello Dear All.

I just placed my ad on the Forum about selling my bike. Where else would you recommend advertising it? Preferably where I can get by with English.

Thank you.

You could try to use boards in the shops like S-market, K-market,Prisma etc.

I did it, when I wanted to sell a book.

But I was advertising everything in finnish...well you can try it in english.

I was going to suggest Nettimarkkina but i then i don't recall seeing many ads in English there...
Then there is Huuto.net of course, do you have an account?

No I don't... :( Well, may be I'll manage to put together an ad more or less in Finnish...

What is "uudenveroinen" by the way? And also, as a bike expert Pete what would be your comments on the bike and the price?

Well, i think that the bike is quite good value, usually those Crescent ladies models with 7 speed hubs go for around 500e.
I'd say you got a good price to start with and if the bike is in as good nick you say it is, then your asking price is ok.
However, what people are prepared to pay is another story altogether. They see an advertised price (which is fair and reasonable) and they automatically assume you will take 100e less.
On this board in particular i can't see you getting a sale without a dramatic price drop, which you shouldn't do!
Try Suomi24.fi first perhaps, it is free and lots of people check out that site.
But definitely use a better site for displaying your pics, that one you linked to sucks. Why not use photobucket or something?

Thank you Pete and onkko. I believe I can say "uudenveroinen" about mine. I really want to sell it but I'm not in a hurry so it's unlikely I'll drop the price.

As for displaying the photos: I'm new to online photo storage, haven't done it before and that one is simply the only one I know. I'll try the bucket...

One more question - there are so many brand names belonging to the bike: the manual has Monark written on it, the takuu ja rekistetrointti lomake says Crescent, in various spots on the bike there are words Crescent, Nexus, City, Shimano, Spectra... What is what in all this stuff??

going by rauginta_kojine 's advice is ideal i think. just take one snap, print multiple, quote the price and phone number in them and place them in various shops. we have got couple of furnitures, nice lamp this way. and yes almost got a cat last week but someone else contacted the owner before us.

Crescent and Monark have the same owners these days so that would explain the manual having Monark on it.
Nexus is an internal geared hub made by Shimano that comes in many variations. Most people prefer the geared hubs to derailleurs because they require next to no maintenance and run seemingly forever.
City is the model of Crescent you have and even they probably come in different forms/price points. Crescent divide their range into categories like City, Sport, Classic etc... because they are built for different purposes. Among other things, a City model would have a fairly upright seating position but not as much as a Classic model has. Also the spec and accessories would be better than Classic models as they are generally made for commuting duties etc...
And Spectra is just the house parts brand of Crescent.
Usually the more brand names parts on your bike the better.
