Roaming fee when call forwarded

Post by exupery » Wed Oct 15, 2008 4:24 pm

Hello,

Just want to share my experience with DNA and its roaming fees.

I am living for few months in the US and took my Finnish DNA mobile phone with me. Up to now my mobile phone was switched on, then calls were forwarded to a fixed-line number (Helsinki number 09...) when not answered or signaled busy (by pressing the button with the red phone). I never answered any call at any time while I was here.

I got few days ago my first DNA invoice since I am here, strangely I had exactly the same communication time for incoming and outdoing roaming calls. I contacted DNA customer services, and they told me that the forwarded calls are charged as the sum of incoming and outgoing roaming fee (so in my case: 2,10+1,65=3,75€ per minute.... yes pretty expensive). The argument for such fee is "the calls have been forwarded back to Finland, so you must pay both ways". I strongly believe that technically calls are not "forwarded back to Finland" but only a "busy" or "not available" information is sent back to your network.

I am now trying to get from them the price for forwarded calls in the case the phone is switched off...

Does anyone else had the same experience with DNA or any other Finnish company ?

Also the problem with DNA invoice is that you can't see the details of your communication (or can you somehow ?). I am now thinking to switch to saunalahti, as it seems that you can get the details call by call from teir web site (anyone can confirmed ?)

Thanks for any comments !

CFNA and CFUB are pretty much location dependant and that the calls were forwarded from the last point of registration ( If you switched on the mobile in the US, then calls were forwarded from there)..
IF you did not switch on the mobile, but did a CFNA ( not reachable) or CFUB ( Call forward user busy), then it is local forward.
If the mobiles is switched off for a period of time, then they can pretty much deactivate the mobile but still charge you for forwarding to the number at pretty much a roaming rate or a deactivated rate.

yes, but no. How will they know if you are busy or not available without first trying to reach you?
Even if the calls are not forwarded back ( technically), the messaging is and you are charged for the messaging.
