Hki area: where to pierce ears to baby-girl?
Hello!
Does anyone occasionally know, where in Helsinki area it is possible to pierce ears to a small baby ? We have got already several sets of earrings from Spanish relatives, but no holes to wear them. Out there it is possible to make piercing in pharmacies, or just after birth in the hospitals, but here... I wonder if someone knows a place.

Be careful with Spanish gold. It doesn't contains as much pure gold as the Finnish one, a lot of copper in it actually so very high risk of allergies. I still can't wear Spanish gold for that reason.
As for the ear piercing, I would advise you to wait for your baby to be older. Their lobes are very small and it might be difficult to pierce them the right way. I had mine done when I was 6 months old and they are far too low now. I can't wear anything else than very small earings otherwise it pulls my ear lobe and it looks horrible. My daughters had their ears pierced a month ago while we were in France and even age 5 one of them had very small lobes which made it tricky.
Also in France they won't do it before age 6 mths to ensure the baby received its first sets of vaccinations.
And finally it is better to see a piercing shop to have it done that a jewelry as the latter will use some kind of device to pierce the ear but that particular device cannot be sterile (even if they do use sterile prothesis) hence increasing the risk of infection.

Hi,
Normally in finland, they do it in any jewellery shop. But they don't do below 7 yrs. About a month back, I asked to one jewellery shop for my 2yrs and 4mths daughter. They refused to do it so I did it in Spain where we went for vacation. It was gun-shot in one pharmacy and had been more than a week now. So far no allergy, hence no serious problem though she always refuse to touch her ear
Regards,
Anjuta

Anyone know where my 3 year old son* can get a nipple piercing?**
He doesn't really know what one is, but I think it would be cool. He has already received some nipple rings from relatives in Guatemala.
* I don't really have a son
** and if I did, I would think that any attempt to punch teeny-tiny holes in him for decoration is a bit sick. Anyone wanting to pierce a baby needs to take themselves outside and give themselves a damned good kicking.

I wonder... when is it the 'right' age to get ears pierced. Mine were done when I was 12!!, my sister got hers at the same time so she was 9. But lots of my friends had theirs done when they were babies or much younger anyway. And lots of my non-Finnish friends with babies have their babies' ears pierced very young, but Finnish friends not. My daughter is 3 and she's not getting her ears pierced yet, though if asked why not, I don't have any answer -'not the right age?', 'she doesn't need be all that grown up and wear earrings yet?' ..... hmmm tough cookie this one.

Well this boring old fart thinks that the right age is when they can do it themselves!!!
My 16 year old pierced his own ear, and made a pretty good job of it. No infection, looks fine. Of course, if he had asked me first, I would've given him the money to have it done properly but he didn't!
I was 18 when I had mine done. Now I have a nickel allergy and never wear any (not even gold or steel).
I think I'm with sinikala on this one... and my guess is that the Päiväkotis don't approve either.

One supposes that the child should not have its ears pierced before it asks for it.RA wrote:when is it the 'right' age to get ears pierced.
I can't imagine too many 3 year olds asking for earrings.

Piercing ears is inevitable in Indian culture and it is usually done along with 'tonsuring'.Atleast in few South Indian castes a big ceremony is held to do this with invited relatives(who usually gift gold or cash to the children ) and friends (a good feast follows the ceremony ).It is mostly done for girls as wearing jewellery is an essential part of Indian culture. In many families boys are also 'ear pierced' as it is believed the piercing of ears has some kind of therapeutic effect (the concept of acupunture) in their growth.I and my sister had this ceremony when we were under one year old,but a few of our friends from the South Indian state of Kerala had theirs when they were just a month old.Piercing is carried out by the goldsmiths and the ceremony is held in temples. It is believed that it is better to pierce the ears when the children are very young, because their ear lobes will be soft and is easy to pierce. So,ear piercing is a common thing in certain cultures, and if you belong to that culture it wouldn't seem so sickening.sinikala wrote:Anyone know where my 3 year old son* can get a nipple piercing?**

My daughters asked for it. We waited a few weeks to see if they realy really wanted to have it done, explaining that it will not be temporary and that it might hurt a bit. Still they wanted to do it. We applied anesthetic cream on the lobes to numb them and it went fine.
We received earrings as gift for them when they were 18 mths. Still I kept them safe waiting for them to ask. My cousin had her ears pierced age 6 mths! What is the point?

If I ever see a baby with pierced ears, I must admit I only seem to notice the ears, so I guess piercing might be handy if you have an ugly baby.

Not only is there no God, try getting a plumber on a Sunday!
