Pet adoption

Post by newpetter » Sat Oct 25, 2008 5:52 pm

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are going to adopt a cat, the cat is from a friend's friend.
Is there any suggesion about what we need to do or be careful? As we are not that experience with pet.
We also have a 2 y.o. son.

Should we take the cat to pet doctor first?
Is there any injections (e.g. vaccine?) we need to give to the cat first?
Or is there anyone have the contact info/website of a pet's hospital?

Thanks for all suggestions! :D

Are you talking about a cat or a kitten?

Basically, your friend's friend should have the cat vaccinated, and checked by the vet. She/he should give you instructions how to take care of the animal. If it has been outdoors, you should ensure it does not have any ticks or fleas.

However, I would suggest you reconsider this idea first, seems you have little clue about cats as pets. Perhaps another child-proof animal would be more suitable. Some cats literally hate children.

I agree with Inkku.

If you choose not to get a cat, don't get a rabbit!!! Rabbits and small children do not blend well because small children do know how to handle them properly and you don't get the same affection etc from rabbits like you do dogs and cats.

Michelle.

P.S Can you tell I own rabbits? LOL.

I would suggest you to get a dog.Cats could make your child to develop many allergies.Dogs helps your child to develop better immune system. Our child gets less sick then her childcare's little friends and most of them haven't a pet and the other has a cat
