Hi,
I'm a recent transplant to Helsinki and I love living here, but i was wondering if there were any CSA programs that one can belong to.
In the past I have "subscribed" to a farm and received a shipment of fresh vegetables every week direct from the farmers. It was amazing - besides being organic and really nice food, I got to directly interface with the people growing my food and talk with them about it, and I also ate only what was in season.
Does anyone know if such a scheme exists in Finland?
Thanks,
John

I think we still have a number of wicked farmers alive in the countryside and not some quaint specimens in a reservation, but its good to know what the future of farming will be.... after all we have "adopt an elderly", "adopt a wayward youth", "adopt a refugee" programmes so why not "adopt a farmer"... though the EU has already killed most of the small farms... if you want to get in touch with your agrarian side you can get an allotment lot from the city though.

I'm not looking to grow food myself - I'm looking to support a local farmer by buying a share in their farm.

buy a share of a farm? so you are looking to buy an estate and installing a crofter? usually the way is to marry the eldest daughter and become a younghusband and get the farm in the generation switch, but these modern world is so peculiar....
I was thinking you meant one of those ecohippie rings? http://www.ruokapiiri.fi/ and going all luomu and lähiruoka - though you will end up paying out of your nose with your dentures... mind you I have a good 1/2 hectares of good field but I'd need a new tractor to save up for so its store-bought for me.hyksos wrote:"subscribed" to a farm and received a shipment of ...organic
