Car's door is frozen
Hi all,
I just bought an old car and I always put a cover on it since I don't have garage. However, it made my car locked because of today's freezing morning. Anybody know how to fix this?
Can I pour some hot water on the lock or? And, it was just frozen by minus 5 degree. Is that the reason I put a cover on it so the temperature's lower than real outside? Thanks you guys help in advance.
Best,
Sam

Re: Car's door is frozen
Use antifreeze to lock and heat key with lighter, do not pour hot water to anywhere! You can fill bag with hot water and use that to melt but dont use plain water, that just moves problem and makes it worst. You may want to try other doors/trunk to get in.
After you manage to unlock car then
- Dissassemble door and use gun oil to moving parts/lock.
- Use silicon oil to insulating materials.

car door locks freeze. period. its called winter. happens more often than not. hot water bottles are virtually unknown in Finland but a double bag of as hot water as you can get out of the tap and a few minutes usually does the trick. the problem is then it will freeze again and again so you need to try and dry it out. which is also you need to have the lock-anti-freeze at home on the table and not inside the car.

Hi,
Thank you guys for messages. I just heard that there is liquor named Lukkosula which can fix this problem. Is this the same as you guys mentioned, lock-anti-freeze? Thanks again.

And as another free piece of advice. Do not use handbrake. It can freeze on, and then it will be quite interesting to try to drive the car.
Oh, and lukkosula is best kept in pocket of your jacket if you trust the bottle.
Because it is not certain that your lock will freeze when you are at home either.

and oil the ignition too. with this humidity when that freezes its not fun. yeah, no handbreak, do a saab and always leave on reverse.oh and also oil the pole key slot now as well. because its not fun when you can't get the cable out in the morning.... and that sucker freezes more than often

hmm I thought that this will not be an issue if you have car-heating with engine heating and inside heater.
Of course, if you dont have an electric outlet to connect to, then its a different issue.

Re: Car's door is frozen
you guys mentioned another issue which I'm also concerned in the first Finnish winter for me, heating. Since no parking space with heating pole is available in my living area, do you know any idea to heat up my 30 years old car in these freezing morning?

Legal limit is 2 or 4 mins depending on temperature.

a good battery does miracles... take the bus schedules ready... if it gets to -15 start taking the bus before you go even try...ipmchootie wrote:do you know any idea to heat up my 30 years old car in these freezing morning?
oh, and put a board in front of the radiator if you drive only short distances.

To onkko,
what do you mean "illegal" thing?
To Pursuivant,
I don't understand what's a board for? Keep the radiator warm when you're driving or?
