Masters degree application

Post by Cloudberry » Thu Nov 20, 2008 2:56 am

I'm just wondering if anyone has some ideas regarding the masters degree application at University of Helsinki. They ask you to nominate your thesis topic and I am not sure if I should just mention the topic or go into detail about it? It would be great to get some advice from anyone who has been successful in obtaining a masters degree place at a Finnish university. I want to put in the best possible application I can.

And the reason you are not addressing this question to the University of Helsinki staff is :?:

I've already emailed them and asked so many questions - I suppose I was trying not to make a nuisance of myself

I don't know what they are actually after but schools are often interested in "thesis proposal" or "frame of references". In any case, be prepared to write at least 4 pages stating what's in your mind regarding your future thesis. Do write back what they are after once you learn of it! :)

Seems like it is better to put more rather than less information. Thanks for the input :)

I'm really stumped on this now. The more I dig and think about possible thesis topics the more I realise that it is impossible to even nominate a thesis topic at this stage. I have at least two possible thesis topics I could focus on if accepted into the programme. Do they take that much notice of your topic? Does anyone know if your thesis topic is a determining factor in the culling process?

it carries a certain/huge weight on your application when there is no entrance exam. US colleges ask you to write essays if i remember for admission purpose!!
