My situation is similar with you. I can work with Chinese and En. But don't understand much Finnish. And I had been working in advertsing for years before moving here. But it looks really hard. If you have technical background, things could be better. But not for our communication/mkting/sales background. How can we approach client w/o knowing their language? I have already started learning some Finnish. Hope it helps a little bit. But it takes time.
It is quite depressing. I studied in the best national university and worked in the top company. But now I can't even find an entry level job. Besides, I am sensing foreigners, like Chinese, are not welcomed. I saw many hurtful posts. Why they don't blame the policy didn't work effectively to attract quality immigrants or students. Dont want to talk about it.
Anyway, I am still trying. Because my boyfriend think working here will be helpful for his career. I don't want to give up the 6-year-long relationship. If you are not in the same shoes with me, why not stay your own country and get hold on to a high power job? No matter what, good luck to you. Merry Christmas!

I can understand its depressing but that we dont welcome you dont mean you arent welcome. And about those posts what you may seen its probably more about of "refugees" from muslim countries. I havent seen any about chinese (if you dont count feminists who think mans import asian wifes to beat them up etc..). And they cant blame policy because goverment dont accept that there is flaws so it has to be hit on them with rude examples.anniewangster wrote:It is quite depressing. Chinese and most of other asians are viewed as good immigrants, atleast i do and i am active on looking issues of immigration. Language is big problem and that causes most of problems.
Contact wholesale companies, bigger building companies, importers etc.. they could do business with chinese and there your ability to speak chinese overrides your inability to speak finnish. And dont mind about that they dont have open vacancies, there is lot of "hidden" jobs.
