Laid Off, Resident Permit, Unemployemnt money
Laid Off, Resident Permit, Unemployemnt money
Hi I am a Peruvian skilled worker in Finland since 07.2007
I was laid off as a Christmas present (with the agreement to dont return until 9 months passed if a position like-my-profile is opened) by my Finnish company.
I don't belong to any union.
I paid my unemployment insurance more than one year.
I am now register as a job seeker and my first meeting for fill in my professional skill is going to be on beginning of February.
I have a resident permit until 07.2011, i can travel around Europe (Schengen Community)) with that without any restriction, but work only in Finland as a IT specialist.
I am thinking to move/search a job in Spain for convenient reasons.
Now come my questions:
1) Does anybody know any case of someone with similar profile as mine who has get any kind of Finnish unemployement money meanwhile it search a job in another EU country (like Spain)?
2) Is possible, In the worst case, If I leave Finland, to reside and search a job in Spain until 2011? (The Pollisi said i can keep my resident permit as it is during my search of job in Finland)
Regards and thanks beforehand

Re: Laid Off, Resident Permit, Unemployemnt money
you need to go to the EURES office and ask how the EU-jobseeker money goes and what exact papers the Spanish officials want... basically you can get 3 months to go seek within EU, after that you are not covered...

Re: Laid Off, Resident Permit, Unemployemnt money
I hope that you can clarify that you belong to an unemployment fund..and not depend on KELA...
Then its practically nothing..or very less...
* In general, Unemployment funds only pay when you have been with them for 18 months.
EDIT: Corrected the wrong information of ..."6 months"
Unions are better in that sense that you qualify after 10 months.precisely 43 weeks..for the first time you are unemployed..and
6 months after the first time..
The Unions can decide when you qualify, but then to determine unemployment eligibility, it is by the law
( determined by the unemployment security act which qualifies you for "base unemployment benefits" for the first time that you are unemployed after 43 weeks of paying unemployment insurance and 34 weeks thereafter.
Unions can decide when you qualify for the "salary based" unemployment..But then they generally follow the unemployment security act and so is the 43 weeks ( 10 months ) for the first time and 34 weeks or 6 months thereafter..

The accuracy of information on this board keeps declining, which is rather sad.

By law its first time 10 months and second time 6 months of full time work. Same for all.

I don't know why you would tell anyone you were looking for work in another European country. It's none of their business.

With your resident permit, if you decide to leave finland to live in another place outside of being placed there by work, a company. Finland will revoke your resident permit. At least from what I have read in that above website.

its all their business if they're paying you unemployment benefits. to get handout in Finland you need to be present in the country - so basically if you take day trip to Tallinn, you loose that days unemployment benefit. so to look for work in another EU country you need to ask for a waiver to get that benefit where you go to. and then theres the thing with the healthcare on top.TampereOwl wrote:I don't know why you would tell anyone you were looking for work in another European country.
you need to inform of your moving to the maistraatti within 14 daysIt's none of their business.

Hi,
To be eligible for any unemployment benefits in Finland (even from the trade union), you need be eligible for an unemployment insurance. e.g. KELA benefits. All the unions have same rules about the membership, because it's defined in the labor law.
There is two conditions defining if you are entitled to the unemployment benefit or not:
Employment condition:
In respect of the employment condition, the claimant must fulfill either the starting condition or the re-eligibility condition. If the person is claiming an unemployment allowance for the first time and he/she has not received an unemployment allowance on 1 January 1997 or thereafter, the person must fulfill the initial condition.
If the claimant has received an unemployment allowance on 1 January 1997 of thereafter, he/she falls within the scope of the re-eligibility condition.
Initial condition
The employment condition is fulfilled when during the immediately preceding 28 months the employee has been for 43 calendar weeks in paid, social insurance-covered employment in which the working hours in each calendar week has been a minimum of 18 hours. The wage in full-time employment must be in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement or, if it does not conform to this, at least 1 019 euros/month.
See more info at: http://www.tyj.fi/default.asp?id=110
Membership condition:
The unemployment fund pays an earnings-related unemployment allowance after both the membership condition and the employment condition have been fulfilled. The membership condition for all wage-earners' funds is 10 months (entrepreneur's membership and employment condition: see entrepreneurs' unemployment security). The employment condition mentioned hereinafter must be fulfilled during the time of membership.
