Romanian restaurant in Helsinki

Post by bullacc » Sat Jan 31, 2009 2:39 pm

Anybody heard of one ? There's probably none, except i've heard some rumours.

I managed to find the closest thing, a Hungarian restaurant (mmm, wiener schnitzel & gulash :D ) called Pannonia next to the Oopera, but nothing Romanian.

i read this in one old post ...
here's a George restaurant downtown http://www.henrix.fi/gh/info.htm

(I read at some point that it was owned/run by an Romanian; not sure whether it's true)
looks its a rumor....even if owner is Romanian doesn't mean its a Romanian restaurant ..but good to check this place ..

Thanks a bunch mate, i'll go check it out, can't hurt.

I got used to finnish food, especially after i've discovered that the vegetables here are the best out of any country, but i still occasionally crave some traditional foodstuffs :)

Absolutely true, Monsieur Witchsmeller

But it beats trying to cook :D (it's mostly hit-or-miss for me, with a strong accent on "miss").

Clearly you don't travel a lot....!!!!! (or you've read the finnish advertisements too much)

Whats the address, name or website for the hungarian place?

I've traveled quite a lot, and i like to sample food from everywhere - nothing beats finnish potatoes, for example, dunno why, if it's the soil or the water or something, but they're better tasting even if cooked badly than properly cooked potatoes from other places. And so on.
And i don't read finnish advertisements, as i don't yet currently read finnish :D

The details are:

Ravintola Pannonia
Runeberginkatu 60, 00260 Helsinki

It's at the major crossing where the Oopera is, right across the street from Ravintola Carelia. The windows, door, and signage are in the hungarian national colours of red-white-green, so it's easilly recognisable.

Context my dear Watson, context - it's easily recognisable on that part of the street, as there's nothing else in those colours there.

Exact location is here:

Ohhhh, you are so much 1990s... ! Mr. Pickwick moved away a long time ago already. Now, it's Pub 99 at the corner.

Beside that, I'd recommend Pannonia :) It's good food and friendly.
