My name is Shirley, and I was an exchange student in Lahti in 2005-2006. I recently received an email from my host parents asking if I could come live there for the summer, it has been a couple years since I've seen them and we were really close. This would be the best thing in the world for me. However, being a student back in the US, I would have to work while I was there. I have already contacted the Finnish Embassy, and they said the process was quite easy. I just have to find somewhere that will let me work for them for 3-4 months this summer, and they send me a contract and thats all I need to get a work visa. So my real question is, does anyone have any suggestions of somewhere that would let me work.
I am 20 years old and as I mentioned before, I lived in Finland for 1 year. I can speak some Finnish, but Im not entirely fluent. I would really love to work at a daycare, as I am studying Neonatal Nursing at my college. My little brother in Finland went to Teddy Bear Daycare in Lahti, and I visited with him a couple times. I think that type of work would be great for me to learn Finnish more fluently, and to help teach english. The best job for me would be something where I could really brush up on my Finnish, I love the language and I get so irritated because I can understand almost everything, but cant put sentances together well. But really any job for summer would be great, just so I could be back. So any ideas of a place, or contacts would be great!

Hi Shirley, I'm a student in Lahti and luckily I have worked through 2 jobs here. Now I'm woking for RTK - a company provides cleaning service. It's really difficult to get a job here in shool-year but it will be easier in summer when they need more employees. The salary is about 8 e /hour. They can give you a contract in English as well. The second job, you can allways get it at anytime is delivering the newspapers. But the work is harder while you will get not much money. About 100 euros for 300 addresses. I don't remember if they will give you a contract or not, it's called "Tyosopimus" , seems like an agreement more. The company is Suomen Suoramainonta : http://www.suomensuoramainonta.fi.
You can also try www.Staffpoint.fi if you know some Finnish. Some of my friends get jobs there.
