Are there personal accountants in Finland?

Post by rob34 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:01 pm

I'm looking for someone who is an expert in tax law and its implications to investments and money transfers. I'm looking for a professional, not someone from a random message board... no offense!

Would this be "kirjanpitäjä"?

I'm having trouble finding information... I suspect this is because we "let" verokarhu do our taxes for us :D

If you're too stupid to do your own taxes in Finland, the county appoints you a caretaker

Verolakimies, veroneuvoja, verokonsultti maybe.
Taxation really is not that difficult for private individuals; tax rates are often high, but at least the rules are rather simple, so unless you are looking of ways to do something illegal with the least chance of getting caught (or the Finnish language is not causing you problems) then I doubt they have much value to offer.

I gave you couple of occupational titles that used in google result (among other things) with links to people and law offices that at least seem to offer what you are looking for. What you do with them is your business.

IMHO this is a bookkeeper. Bookkeepers do bookkeeping (post journal entries in ledgers and produce balance sheets and income statements). They don't give capital investment and tax avoidance advice to individuals.

I guess the big accounting firms have people who do that kind of stuff but they are usually selling something (funds etc) and so there are conflict of interest issues. When my SO was working in S.Africa our personal tax returns were filed in France for us by Price Waterhouse. I was fiscally residant in France, he in RSA, but we were taxed jointly so the whole thing was a major headache. My husband's employer paid for it (the accountant, not the tax  ).

But, although you may not wish to believe it, Vero are very good at giving advice. You could try their new service for immigrants at http://www.infopankki.fi/into/

There is also a taxpayers association (ry) which gives personal tax advice (phone/email). You have to pay a small subscription to join. Can't remember the name of it but it has been mentioned on this forum many times before. My husband is a member and we have used their services several times.

Thanks for the tip on the union. I will keep my eyes peeled for it.

Did they have legal staff?

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.
