I know there is this sytem where u can record VCD to DVD, I saw one in Antilla, it costs around 299€, but is there any another alternative to record my collection To CD's?

I don't know if it still exists but there was a shop in the centre in Lassipalatsi who was doing this kind of things but it was horrendously expensive! Cheaper to buy the dvd recorder especially for such a volume!

If you have a PC/laptop equipped with an external DVD burner ( and if you buy one , then NERO comes with it),
With Nero Vison and (or) with Nero re-code, you can pack multiple VCDs, into 1 DVD.
Generally All LG external DVD burners comes with Nero pack that you can update from their site directly and. ( and external DVD burners with lightscribe rund around €50-100).
Another option is to get a 1TB USB external drive and pack them with your VCDs... ( €100 or so)

Here is an article about converting VHS - DVD http://computershopper.com/hdtvs-home-t ... vhs-to-dvd, You can buy the hardware used in article for less than 70€ in Finland but there is an interesting bit in the article :-

Most copyrighted videotapes, however, use Macrovision copy protection and can't be recorded to DVD. !!!!

So maybe this will make you task a little more complicated if your VHS tapes are protected ! I am sure that there are ways round this but you will have to google a bit to find out how !

Thanks 4 the great responses!!

Mook- i think u are refering to the same setup as Meplusthree.
Amandine, i think i would not be able to afford the services as the cost will be expensive.

Raamv, that is a good option, only thing is i do not have a computer with dvd burner, but i could invest in one,i will look into it.

odon, you dont need a comp with dvd burner, but get an external USB DVD burner:
e.g. for €53 http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prodinfo.php?id=8179
an external DVD burner can read VCDs and then store them in a temp. storage in the hard drive and you can then burn DVDs with multiple images of VCDs.
for storage an external USB HD: http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prod ... p?id=28179
runs for around €100 for 1 Terrabyte of storage.
All you need is a computer with USB outlet..

Google may not be your friend, but it has the answer

Seriously, VCD stands for "Video CD", and was a format from the mid-90s that could store video on a CD. However, it's not as good as a DVD, so when the price of DVD technology came down, it lost its usefulness as a format, especially because DVDs can hold a good deal more than VCDs.

Yeah...I know what you mean. For someone who isn't the best at comprehending computers etc., I bought a Dazzle DVD Recorder from Claus Olsson (?) for about 70 euros and it converted my VCR's to DVD's quite painlessly.

Yeah, so you still need to have a PC or something that can do the DVD out of it...
