Student health insurace policy
Hello everyone,
I have currently Student International Health Insurance from France (as I live there) for nine months for Finland. I found out here that my project will last another 3 months.
I would like to know where I can buy health insurace (cheap)for appling Finland residence permit (for Non EU citizens). I am student in University of Tampere as CIMO scholar for one year.
Can anyone please guide me?
Thanks a lot
Shahzaman

Here in Vaasa, the student union provides some healthcare insurance, and you should be insured at some level with "EuropAssistance", allthough that may not apply if you stay more than three months.
In that case I would go to the international office of your university and ask them for more information.

Thanks for reply. I have a feeling that I am covered with Student Union as I paid the fees.
I have French Social Security and I have paid until 01 Feb 2010 and took international health insurance for nine months which will end by November 2009. but since I have to stay a couple of month more in Finland, I was worring to take insurance for two three months before going back to France.
by the way international office of my university is good idea. I will go and check with them.

Well apparently they (International office) didn't know about how to guide me. There is similar post though on Student forum but I wonder why we can't buy something cheap insurance being students. I paid around 17 euros per month in France to be covered internationally and I was looking for same kind of private insurers in Finland.
Re: Student health insurace policy
IMNSHO you should believe them, not us. Being student doesn't make you less prone to health care problems, only less able to pay for insurance. Btw, if you could get _international_ coverage from France for 17e/mo why you don't take it?kharidar2076 wrote:Well apparently they (International office) didn't know about how to guide me. When I google it, I only get Belgian results though:

Re: Student health insurace policy
I think you have to have separate insurance to apply for extension even though you can get basic medical assistance from the student union medical center.
This is from University of Oulu, International Student Guide,
"The University of Oulu does not cover any medical costs for exchange students (including accidents in connection with studies). All students are responsible for their own health, accident and travel insurances. Do not forget to take insurance that covers all of these during both your stay in Finland and your travel to and from Finland. For eventual leisure time excursions, it is advisable to make sure that the insurance is valid in Finland’s neighbouring countries as well.
Students from EU countries must also bring their European Health Card with them. For further information on the card, please contact the social insurance office in your home country. Note that the European Health Insurance Card is not valid during your travels to and from Finland or during any excursions to a third country. The University of Oulu does not cover for eventual accidents which might take place during your stay, and without valid insurance, the medical payments may become quite expensive. If you are also going to travel, for example, in Finland’s neighbouring countries, make sure that the insurance is valid in these countries as well.
Remember to bring a valid copy of your insurance policy with you. The citizens of EU countries are entitled to all health services in Finland, if they are covered by health insurance in their home country and they have the European Health Card. Even so, all exchange students need separate insurance that covers the whole exchange period."

We don't have as we don't need. If you can extend your one from France, then...kharidar2076 wrote: I paid around 17 euros per month in France to be covered internationally and I was looking for same kind of private insurers in Finland.
