Eggs....
Re: Eggs....
Although there is a good quality control system in place (that's why they found the salmonella so quickly in the first place) there is always a chance something slips through the maze.
So there remains a slight risk. It is never completely save to eat raw eggs (or undercooked chicken). But compared to other countries in the EU, the risk in Finland is still small.

Re: Eggs....
Thanks. Not that we eat raw egg every day - but last week we made a humungous birthday cake for one of my kids and we did a meringue frosting which was basically raw egg white. So we do eat them occasionally in mousses and mayo etc
Re: Eggs....
They found salmonella only in the eggs that are up for fertilization!!
Not the eggs meant for consumption nor the chickens that are meant for slaughter.

Re: Eggs....
Irrespective of salmonella, it is still much more unwise to eat raw chicken than raw egg.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Re: Eggs....
I can't think of any reason why I would choose to eat raw chicken! But I guess it could be an issue in restaurants during rush hour...
When I checked wiki, it suggested 10 minutes at 75 deg C to kill salmonella. Freezing does not kill the bacteria and the meltwater from frozen chicken is particularly rich in the stuff.

Main problem is the kitchenware that has been in contact with the raw chicken and not washed properly. But I guess it could be an issue in restaurants during rush hour...

Re: Eggs....
The salmonella strain they found is ''tennessee' which doesn't penetrate the egg-shell. The 'entiritis' strain would be more risky, that enters the egg. But I wouldn't eat raw egg anyhow. They've stopped egg shipments from the farms where it's been found and they're killing off all the chickens.
