New place, Need some Help!

Post by hamsh » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:09 pm

Hello all,
I have been regularly reading this forum, for there is a great deal of information regarding living in this country. Thanks to Neil for setlling my login problems, and I am able to join this group. We have moved from India, with an 18 month old toddler boy, around 3 weeks back. One thing thats baffling us is the language, for all we know is English. Glad atleast the locals talk English, so conversing has not been an issue. However, its been really hard to get a few things in the stores, for my little toddler. I would appreciate if some one can help me with some tips.

1. Can I get "Prune juice" any where in Espoo or Helsinki area? The finnish equivalent for Prunes seems to be "kuivattu luumu" but I cant find that juice anywere. All I got was Sunsweet Luumumehu (plommonjuice) which I am not sure if it is plum juice or prune juice. Will help a lot if I cud find some, as my son has a bad case of constipation since we came here.

2. Are there any playgroups or classes for toddlers (18 months and abover) in Espoo area? Is there any day care center (in English) which takes in this agegroup toddlers?

Hoping to get some answers :)

Can’t help you with that, but here’s some background information about plum juice vs. prune juice (and constipation) for those who, like me, were wondering about the question.

Googled a bit and found a discussion where people say it’s available at least in Prisma hypermarkets (by the name luumunektariini) or at the pharmacists and health food stores (they mention a brand called Eden).

The have several options in the pharmacy ( Apteeki) some are liquids that can be given with the food!
In the food section in the supermarket, they actually sell pureed Plum(luumu) for babies below 4 or 6 months that you can try for your kid.
The brands that sell these are muksu, pilti bona etc

Thanks a lot for all the fast replies.Actually, that link about the difference between prunes and plums, really helped me convince my husband that the two were different :).

I am planning to try the Bona plum baby food and Sunsweet plommonjuice for now, so lets see.
