jobs in english

Post by japshah » Mon Apr 20, 2009 1:24 pm

Hi ,

I am an It professional with 9 years of work experience in Information technology.

I will be living in Finland from june 2009.

I would like to know how I can apply for Jobs for IT.
I have been working as a Project lead managing multiple projects . I have been involved in multiple deliveries, Resource managment, Priority management, managing Chnage requests .

Please let me know how I can approach companies and find out about jobs.

Thanks

- you could try mol.fi
- you could look in the jobs section of Helsingin Sanomat or Talouslehti
- you could contact companies directly (Nokia, Tieto etc etc), use their on-line application services
- you could contact a recruitment agency or a consultancy broker

Do you have residency and a work permit?

you should use the search function at the top right of the page... this has been discussed many times. Or just go and read through the jobs forum.

Or you could just act like a professional and do the things a professional would do if he were looking for a job. Your post makes it look like you believe the old addage: "It's not what you know but who you know that counts." So, find a new friend in a Finnish Government Appropriations Committee for Nokia, have him make some contacts for you and you've got it made!
(Sorry for being so cynical but....)

Concentrate on finding a job of something you are qualified to do in Finland, like managing a mop and bucket.

Yes, now you know. And it is better that you know it now than to come here and be devastated because you realise how things are.

Why to be so rude?

Instead, Finland should be seeking for professionals even if they are not finnish. Of course, it's a good idea to think twice about coming to Finland, when economic crisis has not ended yet.

What good is professional who cannot communicate with that portion of population who forms way over 90% of total population, in the language THEY prefer?

If you are customer, they will try to serve you in English or whatever. If you are trying to sell, they will expect you to serve in Finnish. And also in a way which Finn finds acceptable culturally. (bazaar sales techniques make me want to choke the bloody bastard)

So, short of some niche jobs, no Finnish (which is case for most immigrants) equals being very useless worker.
Shall we now get to point where we agree that business is not run for purpose of charity nor to provide shelter jobs for immigrants who do not want to learn Finnish?

Then there is question of qualifications. Hicksville state university of Everything And More is not going to convince Finnish employer, unless they are very familiar with mentioned university. Else they presume it is one of those "Send us money, we send you diploma" universities you get advertisements from.

Why to be so stupid? I wouldn't hire someone who can't find his own ass in the morning nevermind supervise a project. Nine years in IT management and doesn't know how to use google, nevermind monster? Professional my ass.

Well they do not use all those programs at Macdonalds  Hope they never start cutting management levels at Macdonalds because then you have to bake your own burger

Hey japshah never mind some of the morons on this site. You can get a job over here just find a niche and fill it. Find companies that you can specialise in and offer them something that only your experience and knowhow can supply.
If you take to heart the comments on this site about getting jobs, well then you will be screwed. I dont speak a word of Finnish and got myself a nice interesting job. It is possible but too often on this site you hear the opposite.
Good luck!

Give your email to people that have rosy dreams about getting a job without Finnish skills, so they can bitch and moan to you then... (just kidding, I prefer this status quo, where people warn aspiring immigrants and they still think that they are the special case to brake rule, but as they were warned first, they can only blame themselves)
