nan or tutteli better ?

Post by natty » Sat May 09, 2009 2:03 pm

hello all,
I am a newly-mother and would like to know about formula milk available here.
1.Which is better giving the readymade liquid milk of NAN/TUTTELI or the powdered milk? In many countries, only the baby powdered milk is available so u make the milk yourself from boiling water. So i would like to know the difference if there is as some people say its better to have the powdered milk as the ready made ones have been on the shelf for a long time. But since in finland they have mostly readymade liquids then it must have some advantages.

2. All the parents with experience which one is better healthwise NAN or TUTTELI?

thanks in advance

you'll end up using both. Sometimes they get bored of one and will only drink the other...

It's easier. Just pour the formula and heat, no boiling, cooling water, measuring powder. On a trip, just take box from a shirt pocket, open and use.

I have no idea, though the differences must be very small. They used (in addition to donated milk) NAN at the maternity hospital, so we have stuck to that (if ain't broken, don't fix it..) - although occasionally I have thought that maybe Nestle has found a way over the no-advertising policy over baby formulas (donating to hospitals (a more paranoid version, bribe some nurses)

Well you got it right, it's the way Nestle advertises. No ad on formula so let's go around it by giving out formula to the maternity wards...

As for the powder vs the ready-made : powder works out cheaper. Plus here in Finland the water is so good from the tap, no need to boil it beforehand. We asked our neuvola nurse and that was her answer. The ready-made is convenient when you're out and about though.

I've been thinking (never asked) that myself too. Then on the other hand they have sometimes manged to screw things up her too (Nokia, the town), so I guess I'd still rather boil the water.

We used Evian bottled water for a while but it's so expensive that we eventually asked advise to Neuvola. He actually digest it much better. Last week the shop had ran out of tuteli 2 powder so we had to buy the ready-made stuff. Aaron fussed a bit, it looks that when making a bottle with the powder it's not so "oily". I don't know how to describe it accurately, it just looks like there's more fat in it.

Hi,
I guess as far as both go, either is fine. We used the powdered formula from the start and then cartons out and about. It is quite easy once you get into the routine of making up a batch of bottles. It is also cheaper and more environmentally friendly (all them cartons!!)I would be inclined to boil the water and allow it to cool as oppose to using it direct from tap, particularly with a small baby.

this is the method i used when preparing bottles using powdered formula.

Tutteli has been around in Finland for many many years. Nan came to the finnish market about 10 years ago. Both are good but it is said that Nan is somehow lighter than Tutteli. Some women have experienced that their babies have a bit of stomach ache with Tutteli...You should just try both.
By the way, Nan has been in other countries for some decades. If it is still in the market...it must be good.
