Bloody disgusting, should cancel his permit and put him on the first boat.

The other thing is that this will reflect on the rest of the community, tarring them with the same brush.

Considering he sold halal-meat procured from Finland he's either facing animal cruelty charges as its illegal to butcher that way - or then hes facing äbäläwäbälä from his clients as the meat wasn't halal...

I just recently watched a TV documentary about the 1996/1997 E.coli O157:H7 outbreak in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Over 400 people were infected and 21 lost their lives.

The documentary featured some heart-breaking interviews of people who were affected by the incident. There was a woman whose mother had fallen seriously ill and couldn’t get an ambulance because there were so many emergency calls related to this outbreak going on all over the area... so they had to dress her up in a refuse bag (her diarrhea was so bad) and take her to the hospital in their own car. The elderly mother died either in the car or shortly thereafter; can’t recall the exact details anymore.

There was also this teenage girl who had invited a great number of her friends over to a birthday party, and many of her guests got the infection from the sandwiches served at that party. If I recall correctly, one of those friends later suffered a kidney failure as a complication.

Many of the deceased were pensioners who had taken part to a Christmas dinner arranged by the local church, etc.

And the reason for all that mayhem? One particular butcher’s shop having less-than-optimal hygiene standards and using the same knife for cutting raw and cooked meat...

(Oh, and when the local authorities told this butcher to stop selling or delivering his meat products for the duration of the investigation, he only followed through that order partially – adding to the number of infections. And he didn’t originally supply a full list of his customers to the authorities, either, so they didn’t initially know he had also been selling contaminated meat to a local grocery retail chain...)

I was in hesburger a few years ago and saw a girl using the same tongs for the salad and raw meat.... :? But I was hungry so didn't care.

Interested to know...what happened to the butcher? Was he punished (fines, jail time) or just shut down?

My last post did not show up on the new posts list... just checking if this makes it better... I had another 500 server crash during my post!

Again... at the top of this page it says 7 replies, and on the new post search it says 6... am I that inconsequential?

I’m not completely sure but it’s probably mentioned somewhere in here. The ironic thing about it was that he had won the “Scottish Butcher of the Year” trade award just some time before that incident...

It's all relative, it's all relative...Remember they deep fry mars bars there.

Did you hear about that town called Roston Vasey? Some guy was selling some weird meat there and there was an epidemic of nose bleeding which resulted in death.

Make your own, and then open the kebab restaurant to end all kebab restaurants. It'll be a surefire hit in Finland. :)

Yes I remember it well (along with many other disgusting practices in the food chain). But the thing that really gets me sometimes is the way people can fly in the face of good food hygiene with some sort of macho bravado, using phrases like, "a few germs won't hurt you" and "we're too clean nowadays". There is of course a small amount of truth in these phrases, but it still doesn't justify mixing utensils used for raw and cooked meats (as is so often seen at BBQs).

Don't worry, I knew a girl who, on her first day at the Little Chef, was shown how to unblock a repetitively troublesome bog with the soup ladle. She was shown how to give it a quick rinse under the cold tap before hanging it back on the hook to dry.
