Though I'm relieved to hear that the trial will involve only "separate master's programs" thus the standard 5-year programs in Finnish are still free, which means that pursuing a masters' in Finnish will also be free.

I'm just curious about what TaiK will do about the Media Lab because it is a "separate master's program" for finns too.
yliopistolaki passed
Re: yliopistolaki passed
Note also that the universities are now given the chance to charge fees from non-EU students in the Master's programmes - this does not mean that all Master's programmes would automatically have a fee for non-EU students.
We'll need to wait and see which Master's programmes will have a fee, how much that would be - and how the universities will arrange the scholarships that were part and parcel of the reform bill as far as the fee question is concerned ("Tuition fees are conditional on a scholarship scheme.")
So please do not make too many hasty assumptions yet
dar1us, about the 'separate' Master's programmes... it's just that if a non-EU student is accepted into a Master's that carries a fee, he/she will need to pay it... EU citizens can be accepted into the same programme, and for them it will still be free of charge. You see, it's a question of nationality. This is partly why SYL et al have criticised the fee plan all along... some pay, some don't.
