Working in English-language kindergartens

Post by katie-la » Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:06 am

Hi all,

I love Finland and I wish to come back and work. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Communication and Sociology, as well as TEFL qualifications. I'm aware that there's not a huge demand for adult English classes in Finland, but my interest lies in working in English-language immersion kindergartens. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how easy it is or how I could go about getting a job at one of these centres. I've found a list of them in the Helsinki area and figure I will just contact them directly, but some of them haven't provided contact details. I'm Australian, a native speaker, but I don't have kindergarten teaching qualifications. Does anyone know if this would be an issue? Do they employ something like teaching assistants?

I'm also curious to know if there are any job opportunities as an English-language editor in Finland? I know that the level of spoken and written English is very high, though I was wondering if, for example, any companies or organisations employed native speakers to edit documents that have been translated? I have journalism/editing qualifications as part of my degree and would really like to use those skills in that context.

Thanks :)
Katie
