Question of EC Long term Residence Permit
Hi all
Now I have got one question for EC Long term Residence Permit.
As far as I heard from Poliisi, to get the EC Long term residence permit in Finland, you need:
- 5 years of continuously living in Finland
- Working contract
- Last 3 months salary sheets
I have been living continuously (w/ A typed residence permit) in this country for 4 years and 3 month, and currently holding a Permanent residence permit (just got it few month back). In fact prior to the 4 years and 3 months, I have worked 5 months with B typed working residence permit.
Now it came the question:
- When apply for the EC long term residence permit, do they count the time period I am working with B typed working residence permit?
In addition to that, I have another question:
- If I move to another EU member state before the "5 years", can I apply EC long term residence permit in that EU member state? Do they count the time period that I lived in Finland?
Thanks!

As far as I understand, a residence permit is given for a specific country in EU area, there is no "universal" permit which covers every place. In other words it entitles you the right to reside in a particular state.
Re: Question of EC Long term Residence Permit
Hi,
EC long term residence is a reality,u need 5yrs continues residence b4 you can apply for One.this means your current permit should b permanent.so as far as, your B permit was a working permit u can apply for one.Just calculate from the time you got your working permit,if its up to five years then you are qualified.
with the EC long term residence permit you have almost the same rights and previllages like an EU or EEA member.u have free movement and the right to work in any EU country.this permit can only be issued by the country that issued you your permanent (P) residence permit.
Another thing is,in relation to work in another country u have to apply for a work permit when u are there.
the only countries that does not accept EC long term residence permit are UK,Denmark and Ireland. So u can not visit or work in these countries, but work in any other Eu country.
I know is for a fact.

What i understand is that the main draw card is, "on summer vacation you can go to most EU destinations for up-to 3 months".megastar wrote:Hi, does any one know where this information mentioned officially ? did you see this in any EU counties websites ?jonab7 wrote:with the EC long term residence permit you have almost the same rights and previllages like an EU or EEA member.u have free movement and the right to work in any EU country.this permit can only be issued by the country that issued you your permanent (P) residence permit.

The EC residence permit will allow you to reside in another Member State for up to three months. To stay longer you must apply for a national residence permit from the other Member State.

See, I had permanent residence before I got EC permit, I think with that also I can stay up to 3 months in another EU country, infact the same goes for A type Visa.
I still don't understand whats the EC permit use for non EU citizens, what extra benefit it gives than PR status ?? I asked the poliisi , they said they don't know.

Asked me to investigate it by myself.

Any of you know any more (official ) information regarding this EC permit,( except wasting 160 euros) ?

2.possible extended travel ability without fear of withdrawn permit.(it states EU so i guess that's all member states)
3.added extension clause for absence.
4.valid until further notice!
looking at it closer , to me it appears to be a good border jumper permit if your business is all about growing in the whole EU.
http://www.migri.fi/information_elsewhe ... and_expiryTo be issued with a residence permit you will need to have secure means of support in Finland other than through social support. Once you have been granted an EC residence permit you will be entitled to gainful employment without limitation. The EC residence permit, as is the case with the permanent residence permit, is valid until further notice.
1.you can change jobs classifications to anything(EU).The residence permit will be withdrawn if you have been residing outside the European Union for a continuous period of two years, or outside Finland for a continuous period of six years.
If there are specific or exceptional grounds for the absence, the Finnish Immigration Service may decide against withdrawing the residence permit. Such grounds include, for example, study, or work on a long-term project. If you are applying against withdrawal of your residence permit, you must lodge an informal written application before the expiry of the time limits for withdrawal.

Re: Question of EC Long term Residence Permit
I do not understand what you mean with "(EU)" here. You can't work or stay in another EU country with the EC permit - and you can do what ever work you want with a permanent national permit as well, which also is of course valid until further notice.cors187 wrote:1.you can change jobs classifications to anything(EU).
I can see that it offers a benefit for some of those staying extended periods of time outside Finland (as it is not so easily revoked if you still stay within EU), but otherwise I'm still too wondering about the 'point'.
Re: Question of EC Long term Residence Permit
When travelling is mentioned regarding other residence permits, isn't that always limited to the Schengen area?Rip wrote:I do not understand what you mean with "(EU)" here. I could be wrong on that, but it is possible that this makes a difference when travelling to EU countries that are not part of the Schengen area, like the UK.
