I think there is more than a little of the Ola Toivonen effect going on in this particular defeat though, no?

Well, if you wanna beat Sweden...go out and beat someone up today. But actually, they might not report it and you would only get one offence...kidnap them, beat them up and then phone the police yourself to guarantee that it's been reported.

simple really.

Where is the US? Do violent crimes are like in the US where people randomly get shots on their head with semi-automatic rifles? My neighbor was chopped in 16 pieces by her husband, and my roommate (luckily survived) got shot down by a teenage gangster. I'm just thinking violent crime in Finland is nothing like this.

The U.S. plays in a different league. It doesn't get included in minor-league statistics.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Well, that's about as scientific as counting populations by phonebooks.

"Violent Crimes" are classified differently per nation making it hard to compare these sorts of things very easily. A more streamlined comparison might be to just compare murder rates, such as here;

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_m ... per-capita

We've got the USA in #24 internationally, Finland at #30, and the UK at #46.

Another fun one, Prisoners per Capita;

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_p ... per-capita

USA @ #1 (this should surprise no one), Finland at #113, and the UK somewhere below #155 (where the listing stops).

I have my doubts as to the accuracy of the survey...
well homicides are mainly committed in ethnic areas in the US. IN white areas, homicide rates are much lower, aided by the fact that people have the right to bear arms
True, and if a gang member kills a gang member, you can guarantee there won't be no police report to go into those official figures...
