Hi everyone. We are an Australian couple visiting Helsinki for the first time at the end of August and were wondering if anyone could give us some information.
We are staying at the Hilton Helsinki Strand and were wondering the best way to get there from the Airport and how far from the hotel into town.
What is the weather likely to be like at the end of August (best guess).
The best pub to meet some locals, have a few drinks and a meal.
We would like to cycle around the city so what are the must see things.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is one option, though I can't say whether it's the best one:
On the street level of the terminal, near the exit, there's a big information booth. Right next to the info booth, there's a little stand with yellow markings for a company called Airport Taxi. For 25E per couple, they'll take you to your downtown hotel, a drive of 20-30 minutes. You'll share the minivan with a maximum of 4 other passenger and they handle the loading and unloading of your luggage
The city bus to the train station is 4E per person but then you'll have to get from the train station to your hotel.
I don't know what a regular taxi would cost, but my recollection is that it's 2-3 times higher than 25E.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

Of course garlic isnt traditional food, we arent that stupid that we would waste precious medicine just as spicetummansininen wrote: What I DID absolutely love even though it wasn't traditional Finnish cuisine is the Garlic Restaurant.

Some more things to do/see are the Suomenlinna islands (the ferry goes there several times per hour, both tourist ferry and normal ferry).
Also, the temple church, it is a church that is buried into the ground. Very cool and it has great acoustics.
If you want some nice nature, take the bus to Seurasaari, an island with lots of places to enjoy nature. It is just off the Meilahti campus, not far from the city centre.
