Dumping a PC!
Got an old PC that needs dumping.
What's the best way to do it? I guess you just can't dump it in the bins.
The HD is dead so I can't open the PC to delete all the files etc.

Take it to the nearest shop that sells pc's eg Musta Porssi, gigantti etc they should have a place where you can leave it !

If you had any sensitive / personal info on the disk before it packed in, I'd get inside the PC, take out the HD, remove as many screws as poss (break the HD it up as much as you can) and finally take a lump hammer to it before throwing it in the metal recycling bin.
Physical destruction is about the only way to prevent a determined person from reading a HD... see e.g. http://www.microsoft.com/australia/smal ... drive.mspx

Don't break the magnets! They are mighty strong = fun! Just don't let your fingers get between them...Bubba Elvis XIV wrote:Right...cheers guys.

I want to see if someone is able to remove one from refrig door with directly pulling, no tools allowed

(my ex gf didnt appreciate when i put few in door and since there wasnt possibility to move magnet before moving whole refrig... And no scratching!... Well i did it on threat of sofa treatment for unknown time)

Just before you dump it, what spec is it? I occasioanally need old, out-of-date crap. Maybe your kit is something I could use. A while ago I ended up importing a laptop from Holland for the same total cost as a modern machine of 10 times the speed, purely because I couldn't find anything old (crap) enough in Finland. That was OK but I then had to deal with a Dutch version of Windows 95. Lovely.

Generally, its not allowed to dump electronic items in the bin because of the mercury.
If you are soo concerned about the data, then destroying HD is the best thing and then putting it in "pieni metalli " or "ongelmat" containers.

Take out hdd, get large hammer, say the words 'Right you barsta*d payback time'

Take the rest to the local recycling centre, they take electronic equipment free, or offer the pc without hdd to somebody on the forum.
