Young family in Oulu needs a helping hand to start over.

Post by understanding » Sat Aug 08, 2009 1:34 pm

Hi,

We are a young Austrian-Spanish family (kids aged 2.8 years and 8 months) moving to Oulu in the following months, and we would need basic furniture for our flat. Do you have some stuff you want to get rid of? Bed frames, curtains, tables, chairs, etc...?

I take the chance to double post here also:

We would love aswell to meet other families with small kids in Oulu who speak German and/or Spanish so that we could meet weekly to play and practice our languages with our kids.

If you are nt German-Spanish speaker yourself but know of someone, please, do not hesitate to put us into touch!

Thanks!

In every Finnish town there are second hand shops where you can get those things cheap. I'm sure there are several in Oulu.

Thanks for your answers, guys. I didn't expect such quick reactions.

I will definitely check the second hand shops once I arrive (I have already located a couple of them on Internet); additionally, I thought that I could try my luck and see if someone reading this forum happens to have some old table, bed frames and chairs (the absolute minimum I'd like to have for the arrival until we manage to furniture our home minimally) collecting dust in some cellar.

About the Oulu German society, their website seems inactive since 2001. Nevertheless, I will give a go to the contact info it shows, thanks for the tip, sini.

Oulu also got a pretty active expat crowd - you seen http://www.65degreesnorth.com/ ???

Anyways, the magic word is kierrätyskeskus
And there is an IKEA in Haparanda, so not *that* far away, though you'd need to rent a van for the trip.
