Volunteers needed! . Content Creation

Post by BAT » Sat Mar 06, 2004 9:17 am

Hello all,

In our meeting last month we acquired many excellent volunteers to help with content creation, specifically How-To Guides, for improving the information here at .. (Thank you to jcooper for the great How-To Guide idea!)

I'm co-ordinating the Education and Tourism aspects, and need some volunteers who will be responsible for writing and compiling relevant information and links on the following topics;

- undergraduate and graduate education in Finland (co-ordinating with Ace about undergrad education, because he'll focus on polytechnics)
- Internships and work placements (perhaps can coordinate with person working on jobs How-To? since they are related?)
- Where do you take your family when they are visiting Finland (Arabella, but can get many members' contributions on this one)
- Science and history attractions in Finland
- Hiring (Renting) a car in Finland
- Learning English, and English language links (Had to take my own name off this because of lack of time at the moment.)
- Can I please have another volunteer to help Penelope with Preschools? Kiitos :)

If you are interested, please private message or e-mail me and let me know what area(s) you are interested in. (See buttons below.) As you can see, sometimes we have more than one person working on a topic - so you can offer to help with any assigned topic if you like.

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY IN THIS THREAD - SEND ME AN E-MAIL :D

I'd like to leave this thread open for other co-ordinators to post the unassigned topics for their How-To Guide sections. Stay tuned!

OK,

Moving To Finland is mine.. mine... preciousss....

so far the topics & volunteers are:

Residence permits: Things to know before you leave Unassigned
Work Permit: Things to know before you leave Unassigned

Shipping and logistics USA&Canada sayx UK&Europe unassigned

Bringing electronic devices to Finland Handsome
- Good idea or bad? Handsome
- Taking the blue smoke out Handsome

Bringing a car in to Finland Arno
- Good idea or bad? Arno
- Taxes Arno
- Compliance of vehicle with Finnish regulations Arno

Culture shock Dpeiber

Stock up before you leave Dpeiber

Taking your shoes off and other funny customs. davie

The silence of the inlaws Handsome

Where to find food, films, tv from home Handsome

Weather and seasons (snow, hot, day length) AlKo

Getting registered AlKo

Residence permits for EU & Non-EU persons Ace (EU) Wombat (non EU)

Registering in the population register AlKo

Embassy Links Arno

So basically, I'd need volunteer(s) for -shipping and logistics (can be divided to UK/europe and USA so more than one person) and the "before you leave" preparation. Here I'd appreciate a little input from every nationality present, as like from leaving Finland you have to do X and inform Y and remember to have someone send your tax sheets etc. So a little country/by country list is a good idea. Also the work permit/residence permit stuff need to be divided at first to EU/NON-EU and then to students/people with a job/ people just in love and without a job/ enterpreneurs/ etc. We'd need to figure out some good allocation to this.

Please PM me, I'll try to get the group meet some time the coming week and we'll then go over the plans & how to submit stuff.

To all current volunteers, and potential volunteers - please check this thread once in a while to see the updated changes.

I have only a few open spaces left in Education and Tourism - so I'm still calling on people to help. Pretty please with sugar on top

I'm still short of volunteers for my area.

Do we have any English teachers who would have time to make a how-to guide for learning English in Finland?

There are other areas up for grabs too - please send me a message :D

Volunteers, have you been in contact with the coordinators of your sections yet? (Whether you have completed some content creation or not.) If not, please do so.

The content is coming in slowly - veeerry slowly but surely.

The content is very much needed for our new portal (coming soon to a computer screen near you!), so please volunteer if you have a bit of time. New volunteers always welcome.

MOBILE PHONE HOW-TO

Calling on one volunteer to compile a list of mobile phone operator web sites in order to have a comprehensive list for people who like to shop around for the best deal. Now that we can keep our mobile number, we can change operators as much as we like. This would be a very useful resource for everyone.
