European School opens to the general public

The European School which was initially set up for the children of employees of ECHA (the European Chemical Agency) has now decided to open enrolments to the general public. The School offers the European Baccalaureat (EB) and the European Schools Curriculum . *

Interestingly the fees are (only) 2-4000 euro per year per child: significantly less than the International School of Helsinki (in Ruoholahti) whose fees can be as high as 15000e p.a.. More and more IB schools are opening in the capital area: Etelä-Tapiola high school just started offering the IB diploma, and Mattliden, Ressu and SYK are also IB World Schools (Ressu is also accredited for the PYP and MYP programmes). These are state-funded schools, so no fees are charged (though students usually have to buy their own books in High School).

Yes, last January 2010 the Helsinki's European school announced that they will now admit a hundred or so students from the general public. The school year will start this autumn of 2010, enrollment ended last January. I think the entrance examination is also finished last February. Chrysalis School Montana
