Advice needed about accountant and reliable shipping company

Post by Nixter » Wed Sep 23, 2009 5:10 pm

Hi,

I just started my own business which involves frequently importing consumer goods to Finland, mostly from Croatia. I had really bad experience with the first shipment using TNT, so I would really appreciate if anybody knows (or have experience) of more reliable shipping company (which is willing to work with little bit more "exotic" market).

I'm also looking for help finding English speaking accountant in Helsinki (ideally, located downtown). Thanks!

I can personally recommend Jari Parkkonen as an excellent accountant who has been serving the expat community for many years. He is located in central Helsinki near Kamppi.

Excellent service, value and trusted advisor!

I have very good experiences with TNT, I import once a month the product from Asia, it only took 3 days on the way. As soon as the parcel was sent out, I sent an email with following info.
1. consigment number
2. payment certificant, as I paid the supplier by online banking, I send TNT the screenshot of the trasaction.
3. invoice, soft version

After receiving my email, TNT will issue an payment calculation according to the cost of product, which including 12% customs duty and 22% TNT's VAT, and I pay inadvance.

Then, I just wait TNT's driver send the parcel to my place, normally, my parcels was sent out on Monday evening around 7 clock, on Thursday between 1-4pm, they are sent to my place.

Thanks for accountancy advice!

Regarding TNT - first it took them 3 days to deliver goods from one part of Helsinki to another, making one mistake after another.

Then we received their bill which included customs for goods that are freed from customs. After I complained, they were exceptionally rude, called my government ignorant and unhelpful alltogether. So definitively don't want to use them ever again, had just about enough. Everybody makes mistakes, but being rude to a paying customer is not an option. For that reason, would appreciate if someone could recommend reliable shipping company, as I don't consider TNT to be one.
