Home Electronic Devices?

Post by lavenderdiamond » Tue Oct 13, 2009 12:17 am

Hello,

Now that the autumn in Helsinki's getting harsher and harsher, the heating's very insufficient in my flat so I've been freezing...The lessor keeps saying the inner temperature is normal, but it must be "Finnish-normal", and presumably not people like me coming from sunny countries-normal. :/ So I was wondering where I could find a device for heating my room, some sort of air-conditioner blowing warm air probably, because I really need it as soon as possible.

Thank you!

think you might be looking for a free lunch here, refer to basic physics, conservation of energy. There,s no magic heat wizard, capable of producing heat without fuel, unless you go geo thermal , there,s nothing free out there, ,,, of course if you have a fireplace, there,s lots of wood out there in the forests, you need to find someone doing a raivata(forest clean up) and offer to remove their old branches... hey you,ll get so warm doing the work you mightn,t need so much heating,,

The radiators probably need bled. Are they hot?

Finnish apartments in the Winter are way warmer than anywhere else...

Also: put some clothes on. I can now wear t-shirt and college pants <3. lavenderdiamond... that sounds girlish and it is a known fact that females of our species are _always_ cold. onkko's links have some helpful devices, but If the radiator are hot, temperature normal and you are still feeling cold, then I would check windows' and balcony door's seals for leaks. Also adjusting of fresh air valve is possibility, but don't block it entirely.

edit. thick curtains (that are kept closed during dark time) can keep apartment warm too... don't get too long ones, that flow over the radiator and it's thermostat.

What is the temperature in your room?

As Upphew already said, could be a gender issue :) Are you female and is the landlord male? Mrs Zax likes to crank up the heating at least 5 degrees more than I do...

I live in a shared HOAS flat. The radiators are sometimes on a bit, and sometimes not, but never that warm. The fresh air-valf is not adjustable, it just keeps blowing cold air, the only way to block it to an extent must be covering it with paper or something. The temperature in our rooms is 19-20 degrees. I thought maybe there was something wrong with me, but my flatmate complaints about the cold too and wears a coat inside. Upon our false report, a guy from HOAS came to check and left a note saying it was normal apartment temperature. So I can't ask them to do something about it, I have to figure out something on my own :/

HOAS, so studenthousing... central heating is fine system until people start to adjust it themselves. "Correct" temperature is 20-22, comfy couple of degrees higher. So yours is not that far off, but should be definitely monitored. 18 is definitely too low.

You are right! 20 degrees of room temperature is normal for a finn, but not for us... The temperature was 19-20 degrees in my flat and I decided to seal off every single needle hole on the windows and doors, which gave me 1 degree-increase only :? So, we ended up wearing thick socks and cloths. I also strongly suggest you to buy two pairs of these:

It probably also gave you increased humidity and carbon dioxide levels. House plants like it though :)

We live in a vegetative state during the winter, so it's quite comfortable  (I didn't seal the ventilation valves, though ;) )

,,, sorry, i must have slight dyslexia, I read the word " cheap" in your initial question, but if cost is no object, then get those electric heaters, and expect a whopper of a bill in spring, cos winter hasn,t even started yet and you got 6 months of it . , i,d buy those thermals if i were you.. but Mook s right,

Are you suggesting we buy a couple of clothing models? I guess she could keep me quite warm, but my wife has better taste than him :ochesey:
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
