Blank DVD's

Post by irnbru » Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:49 pm

Any ideas where I can buy a cake of blank DVD's like so:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Verbatim-43549- ... 742&sr=8-2

For a reasonable price (either in Finland or that delivers here).

The prices here are a joke (as usual) and none of the UK sites seem to deliver here.

I can get them delivered from the US it seems but the postage then makes it not worthwhile.

www.nierle.de

Or at least that’s what most people used to use a few years ago. I haven’t been keeping up with the current situation.

Check verkkokauppa.com pages (shipping directly from Estonia to avoid the blank media tax)

There's an extra media tax on them (http://www.teosto.fi/en/index_en.html). Same goes for blank CDs

I once ordered some cheapo DVDs from nierle - never managed to get them to work. Though they did include some free brandtwein with the order. After that I've used verkkokauppa, which sends from Estonia, which probably makes the postage cheaper that from germany.

(Incidentally, I notice that verkkokauppa will now sell you stuff that's sent from Ahvenanmaa (Åland) to skip some other taxes)

As you said, postage will easily kill the benefit. Organisations like Nierle tend to be much cheaper due to lower or absent postage and lower taxes.
(which is why I have started ordering my books from bookdepository after seeing someone mention it in this forum)

I order my Verbatim DVD+R DL from ebay.de... I have not found any cheaper place that from there. Once you add the shipping costs and all that together. I buy 30 at a time and the end cost including shipping comes to be about 1.90€ per DVD.

Verbatim DVD+R Double Layer 8X 50 kpl spindle Wide Printable 8.5GB 62.90 €
6.70 € (Nouto postista)

69.60 / 50 = 1.20 Euros a disk

You're math is slightly off but it's still cheaper than my source...

69.60 / 50 = 1.392 Euros a disk (went mailed)
62.90 / 50 = 1.258 Euros a disk (when picked up)

But anyway, it's been so long since I compared prices to verkkokauppa and when I did, my source was cheaper. 30 dvds has lasted me quite a long time... I still have some actually. If I order 50 I think I have to split it with a buddy. The only bad thing from the spindle that you showed me is "Saatavuus: arvio: 2-4 vkoa"

My experience when ordering from verkkokauppa when they have that availability estimate is bad. The item never really came and I ended up canceling my order and getting it from somewhere else.

But thanks for the heads up, next time I order I'll try these guys if I can get a buddy to order with me. 50 dvds would last me a couple years I think ;)

As said, the "media tax" on blanks + VAT makes Finnish prices high.

Whats the point if people like me just buy them from abroad? (like I just did thanks) then they are making sweet FA.

The Finnish economy is screwed if they don't start competing. I would love to buy everything from here but the prices just make it impossible.

It's rare you can actually buy anything from Verkkokauppa, I gave up long ago.
