Getting around in Helsinki
Hello,
I'm going to Finland this winter for the first time. I have a friend living in Heinola and I'll be staying there. I might not have a chance to go back to Helsinki to see around, so I thought I could at least visit some near places after landing in Vantaa. Are there any interesting places around?
Thank you,
Ezgi

Depends on personal preferences. But your suggestion and preference is not interesting for me. Still thanks for your(very wise)answer.

Well there is also an industrial area and a highway but you can not walk about there.

Hi EP,
I actually visited many websites like this but some time later you just get confused...I thought a few suggestions from experienced travellers/habitants would be more helpful. But I'll check this website and plan a brief visit.
Thank you for your-welcoming and sensible-reply

Re: Getting around in Helsinki
At this time of year, I wouldn't base my plan much on outdoor activities as the weather is lousy and it's dark most of the day. It's around 0 degrees C (give or take a few), although it's likely to go down to -15 next week. Probably that won't last long, so chances of getting a glimpse of a good winter (snow etc.) around here is slim. So for suggestions I'd check the museums, exhibits etc. in Helsinki, maybe try out some restaurants that serve traditional Finnish food (there are a few others with Michelin stars, if you're into fine dining, see http://www.eat.fi for restaurant information and customer reviews). Shopping isn't particularly cheap, even the local brands/products, partly due to the Euro exchange rate (if coming from outside Euro area) and the pricing here in general.
