But they only tell if you have defaulted, credit rating that banks use is commercial secret.

Are the requirements for housing loans more open knowledge? I know it's a minimum of 30% down but what is the maximum percentage of your income allowed for your monthly loan payment? Not that I would want to skate so close to the edge but that's important to know to realize what is my price range if I buy a house.

Depends of your income ;)
Banks usually baby you to some kind of budget so it really depends of your spending habits. See for example: http://www.nordea.fi/Personal+customers ... 62934.html

I think there is actually a law which limits what the banks can lend you as a % of your disposable income, I remember seeing a calculator somewhere, Maybe someone else can help with the link

The best answer you will get directly from a bank (it varies somewhat from one bank to another). Note that as we do not have any 'FICO' equivalent here, you also have no public rating that could suffer from asking for loan even if you don't actually get or take it (my understanding is that in USA that could happen(?)). It is standard nowadays that you have prior approval for loan before you put in a offer to buy a house or an apartment and people tend comparison shop different banks for best offer.

Your income is the most important variable, other factors would include the perceived stability of your job, amount of down payment you can make, what other assets you may have and the location of the house or apartment you plan to buy. As a starting point you should first convince yourself (after doing the necessary math) that you handle without too much difficulty paying back the loan.

For anybody who is not more than 30 years old and would be buying a flat or house only few years (or more) later, looking at 'ASP-laina' could be worthwhile.

All banks are now checking on how long you had had your job.
Almost all of them check how long you are a permanent resident ( If you are not a citizen). Nordea has a limit of at least A permit with 4 years.
