Family Based Visa, Leaving Finland for some months?

Post by deepblues » Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:56 pm

I have a question regarding the visa issues based on family ties.
If i have got a visa based on family ties, i suppose it is 1 year. What if i have to go out of the country for around 6 months (for exchange studies).
Am i allowed to leave Finland for that time? Will it effect on renewing the visa (eg. Visa officer might ask why I had not living with my partner? )?

I checked the immigration centre's web site and it says that the applicant must stay in Finland at least half of the duration of the visa admitted.

So, in your case, you have to stay in finland minimun of ½year and the rest you can stay abroad.

"Is the applicant not allowed to leave Finland for four years?

There may be no breaks between the periods of validity of the various continuous residence permits. The permits must be seamlessly consecutive for four years. Furthermore, when applying for a permanent residence permit, the applicant must have a valid residence permit.

However, the stay in Finland does not have to be uninterrupted. Regular holidays and other travels are allowed. The applicant must reside in Finland for at least half of the time during which the residence permit is valid."
