Hi,
I hope you haven't heard all this before, but if you did, links are welcome, thanks!
I already got the student grant (*whispers a silently 'thanks' to Heavens for that one*), but I'm thinking that maybe I should get a student loan. I'm not complaining (!) to be noted, I'm still grateful for having such a support for my surviving during studies, but I have tried to find jobs on a daily basis this year and it just didn't happen. I thought that, maybe, it's too many conditions from my part: to be able to speak English doing my job, not having an "expert's" degree, handling only a small category of 'clients' (small children), only after working hours (when, in this case, i am not so much needed cause parents come home, also).. Then, I'd also like to take an extra course trying to learn Finnish and, why not, Swedish, but I can't do that, as many other things I cannot, because the financial bit. Also, if I manage to have that money and pay myself some courses, than again, i know for sure that I wouldn't have time to be employed.
This is, I guess, what you all students experience or have experienced at some point: psycho-f¤ck.
I am also weighing my decision. Is it realistic that I want to get a student loan? (would it be approved for I'm a foreigner even though a perm resident) Is it also realistic from the point of view of being able to pay back after graduation. Is it a possible mess I'm getting myself into tangled in the system ..with my loss in the end?
# Was wondering also what are the conditions for one to be able to get a loan? I googled briefly, I must admit, and the info wasn't rich.
# What are the legal expecations once you got the loan?
# Do they give it over the summer as well?
# When do they want it back?
# What application does one need to fill?
Thank you!

go to a bank and ask.# Was wondering also what are the conditions for one to be able to get a loan?

I guess you being a foreigner, only here to study, they might think twice.
No way for us to guess how a bank will react in your specific case.
For them it is all about risk management. If they consider you a risk, you're on your own.

Hmm.. thanks. I might qualify for a loan because I already get the grant.. according to this link. Plus, I'm here to stay (at least that's how i feel now). I started studying two years after my coming..
Free your mind and the rest will follow!

Re: Student loan
Yeah, if you're in the KELA books the student loan is soething that usually the banks give out easy - if you haven't messed up anything. Just then watch out when you near graduation and if you cut your Opintotuki - even if you haven't graduated they are quite eager to start asking for repayments.
