Cheap health insurance for foreign students & researchers

Post by JamieL » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:54 pm

Hi :D I found on the forum information about health insurance but nothing about the cheapest.

In fact, I was studying in Switzerland and now will stay for several years in Finland for research activities.

I find out that if I stay for more than 2 years in Finland, I must buy an insurance with a general limitation of EUR 30.000 or less than 1 year, then an insurance must have minimum limitation of EUR 100.000.

For this reason, I searched on the internet and find out a plan for only EUR 265 / year with limitation of EUR 30.000.

http://www.swisscare-intl.com/swisscare ... nland.html

In fact, it is a European company and I'm most secure with a company here in Europe instead as one from the US.

Hope this information can help other students or researchers (Also family members can be insured ... see the website)

I would recommend to take a look at the page from immigration bureau. There are a few recommended companies. This will help you avoid buying the company that the bureau doesn't trust.

I have bought from SwissCare and there is no problem, at least not yet. You can get the correct plan from there since they have the country options.

Anyway, buying from the companies recommended by bureau is the safest place, I think.

Hey there :) I've just purchased health insurance, but it's not quite as cheap as your options! I though I'd mention it in case someone searches for the topic in the future:

It's Van Breda ExpatPlus insurance. It seems comparable to a BlueCross plan in Canada and is a worldwide coverage with multi-language, online service.

otoh, I haven't had to use it yet, so if I break my leg I'll report back on the customer service ;)
