Non sine laude approbatur

Post by Oombongo » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:59 am

Ok, I have no idea about Latin based system for Finnish degree. Is "Non sine laude approbatur" grading/ranking good or bad? Out of scale 0 to 5 where 0 is lowest and 5 is highest?

It's not very good, actually, but still it's a bit stronger than a mere "pass"...

http://www.helsinki.fi/exchange/studies/index.html
Master's thesis grading:

A seven-level Latin grading scale will be applied in the grading of the Master's theses (laudatur being the highest grade):

Laudatur
Eximia cum laude approbatur
Magna cum laude approbatur
Cum laude approbatur
Non sine laude approbatur
Lubenter approbatur
Approbatur
So... on a scale of 1-7 it's 3... what onkko's saying is that this grade is not used in the Ylioppilastutkinto (matriculation exam) > http://www.ylioppilastutkinto.fi/en/index.html.

cum laude is "with praises accepted" and non sine is " if I was you I wouldn't keep noise about it"
"By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes."
