You get unemployment benefit for the time you are unemployed AND available for work. If you are abroad they consider it so you are not available -> no benefits. I know one case where acquaintance of mine were on holiday abroad and received letter or phone call to interview and got busted because of that -> no money for 3 months.

The integration plan benefit is basically "työmarkkinatuki" (= the lowest of unemployment benefits), which because of the integration plan can be paid also to immigrants who would not be otherwise entitled to työmarkkinatuki, so I don't think you can possible get it at the same time as regular unemployment benefit.

As such, using the spare time you now have to study Finnish (if there is no suitable course offered by the unemployment office, they are not the only provider) would probably be a good idea.

I'm an Indo citizen who's lived in Finland for a little over 3 years. The first year I went back to Indo for 3 weeks and the second year I went back to Indo for 4 weeks. During my holiday I didn't get any benefit. Before going on a holiday abroad, you've got to contact TE-toimisto and tell them the dates...and then once you're back to Finland, you have to report again so that you're eligible to get unemployment money again.

If you go on a course organized by TE-toimisto, you'll get around 660 Euros a month, but you will only get that amount of money instead of the unemployment benefit. The unemployment benefit amount depends on the income of your spouse (if you have a Finnish spouse), but if you go on a course organized by TE-toimisto, you'll get 660 Euros a month regardless of how much your spouse makes.
