Leader needed for the Scouts in Helsinki

In January 2010 Helsingin Erä-Majavat ry established an English-speaking Cub Scout group. The group is meant for boys and girls aged between 7-9 years, who are bilingual or who speak English as a mother tongue. The group follows the Finnish scout program which was updated in 2008. The sea scouting activities are also present in the program. Currently we are searching for a leader for the group.

We wish for the leader:
• Excellent command of spoken English
• Capacity to organize the group meetings in the autumn 2010 and in the spring 2011.

The scout troop Helsingin Erä-Majavat will offer:
• Support for the leading tasks
• Education in leadership and the Cub Scout program
• Enthusiastic and active atmosphere

The Cub Scout group meets once a week in the premises of Helsingin Erä-Majavat in Perhonkatu 3. The meetings take place on Sundays at 3 pm.

Those interested in the volunteer leadership of the English-speaking Cub Scout group can contact Mikko Vesa (0407546433 tai mikko.vesa@partio.fi).

Hi, my name is Carrie and I am in Helsinki for 2 months. I am a Social Worker and volunteering with some elder care organizations. Are you still seeking help with the scouts? I was a scout as a child and lead a Girl Scout group back in the U.S. Because I am only here a short time, I may not be able to be a leader. However, I would be happy to help with the groups as an assistant if this is needed.
Hope to hear from you,
Carrie Shamel
